Portfolio: Chapel Hill SunroomThe homeowner wanted to enclose her front patio and surround it by glass and use this space in all weather conditions and still have the lovely view of her wooded lot. We were able to salvage large glass panels from a building that was being demolished, and recycle them into this sunroom. It is unconditioned space but a wood stove was added for especially cold days and a ceiling fan installed in the cathedral ceiling for the warmer days. We left a portion of the patio uncovered and open, saving outdoor space for those great North Carolina mild spring and fall seasons. A primary concern was to incorporate the architectural style of the sun room with the existing house. The architectural style is prairie, and the way it is married to the land, it certainly is reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright. The homeowner was delighted that we were able to maintain the style and no one could tell that it was an addition. The homeowner reports that she uses it everyday and has slept there during the day and at night. The comfort and style of the addition exceeded her expectations. |
