Portfolio: The Garrett Farm House

This family needed a separate downstairs playroom for the young children and a computer room that could double as a guestroom and a laundry room upstairs. Large windows matching the size and style of the existing windows were positioned for the great view into the large back yard.

The playroom has laminate flooring that looks like an oak hardwood floor. We did built-in bookcases and a large closet across the back wall that has shelving from floor to ceiling for toy storage. The owners picked bright green and blue for the walls with white trim making a very cheerful environment. We installed insulation in the shared wall between the playroom and living room to muffle noise while the children played. A lovely French door provided the entry from the living room into the playroom.

We capped off the plumbing for the washer in the existing laundry room and moved the washer and dryer upstairs. This made a large mud room entry from the garage where shelves and storage were installed that helped to organize coats, book bags and sports equipment. The washer and dryer are now upstairs convenient to where the majority of dirty laundry is created. We put an easy water shut off valve and put the washing machine in a large pan and a drain that will handle any water leaks.

The existing upstairs bathroom lost its window because of the addition, so a solatube was installed and now floods the bathroom with sunshine. A new balcony and landing were added to the upstairs over the living room to enter the new computer room. The wall color for the upstairs is a beautiful, muted, restful green with white trim.
